A surcingle is the strap that goes across the top of a traditional Australian stock saddle, and through the horizontal slits on either flap. There are two styles. One has a ring attached on one end, to receive the strap that is attached to a four buckle girth. This acts as a pulley to make it easier to firm the buckles.
