Our MULE BREECHING is made for the toughest conditions, heavy duty harness leather with solid metal fittings. It has a padded top for the rump, and padded back strap around the mule’s hind. Durable and comfortable. The advantage of a breeching with multiple straps as shown is that it holds both the saddle AND the girthing system in place, making it impossible for a saddle to move forward when a breeching has been fitted correctly. Mules love steep hills, and if they are worked to their fullest capacities they will go places horses find difficult, or even impossible. Traditionally breeching have been heavily made for mules, to support trail work in mountainous conditions. For horses the equipment is much lighter. Breeching is better for a mule than a crupper, because this mount can figure out how to “mast” the tail and actually disengage a crupper. Because of their flat back both breeching and breast collars are recommended equipment for all mules ridden on trails.
