Luxury accommodations for you and your horses, in the hills of Malibu. Two people, two horses, you feed. Humans only= $195 week nights, $245 Friday thru Sunday. Horses are $25 a head.
For the people, there is a fully contained 200 square feet apartment overlooking a 10,000 square foot fenced turnout paddock, with luxury covered stalls attached. Lush gardens and abundant green pines overlook the secured paddock, which is fitted with automatic waterers and above ground feeding troughs. The stalls are actually under the apartment, so at night you can hear your horses necking, or carrying on with whatever else horses do when they are happy in a feel-good space. There is a covered hay barn for the horse feed you will bring and on-site parking for your rig or cars. This is upscale livery. Arrangements can be made for a third or fourth person to camp in your rig, for which there are plug-in facilities.

Host Colin Dangaard

Your host is COLIN DANGAARD , a legendary mountain horseman who has owned this ranch for 30 years and has direct access to little-traveled trails in the magnificent Santa Monica Mountains. For $100 Colin will be your guide to spectacular trails of which only he has knowledge. No bikes, no other horses, and foot traffic is rare. Name your own skill level and Colin will accommodate you. Anywhere from mild to terrifying, he’ll do it! A typical ride is two hours, but all-day rides are possible with arrangements.

And here is another great opportunity: COLIN DANGAARD is the man who introduced the Australian Stock Saddle to America in the 1970’s and it subsequently became the first new saddle to win popularity in the US in 300 years, since the days when English and Spanish/Western saddles began appearing. There is no better saddle for the trails!

While you are staying at RIDERS’ REST MALIBU Colin can fit you AND your horse or mule with an Aussie saddle that will change your life. After he has helped you to select the saddle you like, Colin will measure your horse, and then you can watch him take the saddle apart and reshape the tree to perfectly fit the horse. Bespoke saddlery as you watch! Then you can accompany him on a ride into the adjacent mountains to test ride it and experience your new saddle before you leave.

Riders’ Rest guests relax after a ride in the spectacular Malibu Mountains. At left is Kenna Sava on Smokey and at right is Samantha Everleth on Old Girl. Said Samantha: “Having the horses right there, living underneath us at night, and then riding in the beautiful mountains! What an amazing experience!”

Jared Drew Williams from Vancouver, British Columbia stayed at the Riders’ Rest and had this to say on 3/22/20: “Colin's Riders’ Rest is the ultimate escape to isolate in the beauty of the Malibu mountains. He's a famous Australian cowboy, known around the world for his custom Australian saddles. Relax and unwind with your trusted companion or alone in this luxurious self-sufficient suite. Complete with its own kitchen, bathroom, and well appointed with furniture and wifi. The bed is comfortable and the ambience is quiet, clean and full of western flare. The fridge invites you with basic snacks, wine and beer. This apartment sits over the arena and you can even bring your own horse for a fee. During these uncertain times, when hotels are a risk for the traveler, Riders’ Rest is the solution. Get away in Malibu canyon for the ultimate ranch style getaway. We have come back multiple times. It's a gorgeous working ranch, hosted by friendly people who are near by if you need anything. Bring your own food and relax in this little slice of paradise.”
